description From September 2015, as a ‘good act of practice’ (Tickell, 2011), professionals working within the early years sector have been expected to jointly review the development of all 2-year-olds as a means of early assessment and in order to identify emerging needs – but what impact has this had on those directly involved with this assessment? This study presents an exploration into the integrated review at 2-2½ by exploring the experiences of three stakeholder groups; parents, frontline practitioners and local authorities. A range of instruments were used to gather qualitative data for analysis. Findings show that parents present mixed experiences about this review and further, findings challenge whether the integrated review can meet the challenges of everyday practice. Implications for future practice discuss whether better lines of communication, more training and advertising are needed if this review is to be viable and successful. This study concludes that the efficacy of this assessment tool is still unknown and conducting this assessment within a multi-agency team is highly complex.
