description The Chilean educational system has been designed to trust in accountability, competition and choice alongside freedom of teaching and freedom of choice, to achieve effectiveness and efficiency. The Institutional Educational Projects (IEP) are of particular interest to this research, as frameworks to guide the schools aims and therefore the values to be implemented within them. Headteachers, who are those responsible for putting these values into practice, have their own set of values and beliefs. Subsequently, when facing all these variables, they are likely to face ethical dilemmas and challenges when trying to realise their own values. In this context, this research is intended to find out the role that the Headteachers’ personal values plays when implementing the IEP. The research was carried out by a phenomenologist approach, interviewing six Headteachers working in the privatised, private-subsidised and public schools; and its findings indicate that the success in implementing their own values depends on the school context, personal traits and professional experiences.
