description The strategic priorities of Rolls-Royce PLC from 2016 onwards highlight engineering excellence, Operational excellence in lean manufacturing and supply chain, improving processes and lowering costs and to influence project knowledge and engineering capabilities. The ability of the business to deliver engineering and operational excellence requires delivering products that are safe and reliable, which involves making use of the best practices and standards having the best engine configuration. An important process is Engineering Configuration Management, which involves working together with the supply chain in order to have clear visibility of any changes in the configuration of the engine to deliver the best quality product. This study examines critically the current audit process for configuration management at Rolls-Royce. This study reviews the current literature regarding supply chain definitions, Engineering Configuration Management and different standards and principles that are applied in the aerospace and defence industry and finally will briefly look into quality. The configuration management audit process is studied and a number of recommendations are made such as: • Rolls Royce providing Auditors training in Configuration Management practices, and also regular training for Design-make Suppliers to understand the CM practices within the company. • Aligning the evidence and questions related to Configuration Management in the SABRE capability Assessment Chapter B2 with ISO 10007, ANSI Standards and EASA requirements. • Constantly reviewing Configuration Management Standards and EASA regulations to ensure the latest information and clauses are reflected within current RRES90009, such that it is kept up to date. As a result of this study there is a modification in the clauses that are related to Configuration Management on the RRES90009 (that includes the set of requirements for Design and Development Activities for Rolls-Royce Plc and the Supply Chain) and other set of activities that will help to get a higher visibility of the Supply Chain activities and will result in improved integration.
