| description | The global travel market is a major industry contributing 9.4% (USD 5,474bn in 2009) to the world’s GDP and employs over 225 million people. Over the last four years the Travel & Tourism industry showed four consecutive years of growth with an average of 3.6% p/a, however growth has slowed down since the second half of 2008, due to the economic climate.
The online environment is moving at a rapid pace as entrepreneurs are developing new uses of technology or creating new technology for new applications. The online entry barriers are extremely low for new businesses to register and develop a web page offering e-commerce or information. In order to start an online business, we will explore and understand the operating environment and the value creation proposition for the visitor.
How will we engage the visitor to return to the site? Leveraging on a product development strategy to enter the online site is that feasible and how should we do it? What are some of the key considerations? Which E-business model will be suitable as an entry mode? What will be the business model: infomediary, advertising, direct merchant model and more. This thesis explores the structure of the travel and tourism sector and the value creation activity leveraging on the website to launch a travel e-business. |
