description There is a growing urgency of the need for action to mitigate and adapt to climate change and this issue has been rising on the business agenda in the recent years. As companies seek to understand the impact they have on climate change, the importance of understanding and engaging with the supply chain has gained increasing momentum. Achilles is a company that focuses on building and maintaining supplier and buyer communities worldwide to offer sustainable procurement services through a collaborative business model. The latest addition to Achilles services is carbon emissions measurement and reduction programme CEMARS. The purpose of this research is to conduct a strategic analysis of the current and potential future alignment of CEMARS with selected standards, reporting frameworks and initiatives driving for emissions reduction in the carbon management arena. The focus of this study is in the UK, where the initial roll-out of the program has recently started. The analysis of selected key initiatives indicated that on a general level majority of outputs of CEMARS certification programme currently are compatible with the requirements of the selected initiatives and reporting frameworks. The areas where minor development needs were identified related to inclusion of financial information in CEMARS, reporting on risks and opportunities related to climate change as well as target setting for certain high impact industries. More profound new development needs were identified e.g. in relation to achieving high alignment with European Union's Emissions Trading Scheme. Among others that would require Achilles to become recognised as an accredited verifying body for GHG inventories. Also new development needs were identified in relation to emerging product and services GHG accounting standards. Recommendations were grouped into four themes, which encompassed areas such as technical, alignment, collaboration and future potential markets
