Description
Summary:Rapid industrial development discharged huge volume of heavy metals to the environment. In some cases heavy metals present is high concentration and require treatment. An alternative option in treating heavy metals is using biosorption. Biosorption is a passive physical-chemical process where bio molecule of non living biological material that called as biosorbent, bind with heavy metal ion in aqueous solution. In this research watermelon rind was chosen as biosorbent- Charaeteization studies were conducted using SEMEDX, XRF and FTIR to prove that biosorption process occurred. The results from characterization studies had confirmed the appearance of heavy metals after biosorption due to ion exchange process. These results supported potentially used of watermelon rind as biosorbent for heavy metals removal in various wastewater.
