Changes in the DNA methylation pattern of the host male gametophyte of viroid-infected cucumber plants
The Hop stunt viroid (HSVd) is associated with changes in the DNA methylation pattern of cucumber pollen that affect rRNA genes and transposable elements, thus opening the door to the possibility that infection could result in epigenetic effects being passed to the next generation.
