Description
Summary:The emergence of issues such as apostasy cases, conversion due to marriage with a Muslim partner and the lack of understanding about Islam associated with mualaf prompted authorities to invent numerous solutions. However, the downside of having many religious institutions caused inconsistency in modules and methods of da'wah, necessitating a more practical and relevant approach. The Maqasid al-Shari'a approach is perceived as appropriate because its objectives provide a framework for applying Islamic teachings in a way that upholds justice and promotes the welfare of individuals and society, which are generally categorised into the five fundamental essentials: preservation of religion, life, lineage/dignity, intellect, and property. Thus, this study aims to analyse the contents of da'wah modules based on the Maqiisid al-Shari'a approach and identify da'wah approaches implemented on the issues of mualaf. This study used qualitative research design which was conducted by content and thematic analysis for the module of da'wah and semi structured interviews with participants from East Coast da'wah institutions. The data were then analysed using ATLAS.ti version 22. According to the findings, two themes which are individual community engagement of community-based da'wah and interpersonal communication approach emerged for da'wah approaches and some of the contents of da'wah modules are consistent with the Maqasid al-Shari'a approach. For the preservation of religion, three codes emerged, prayer/salah, purification/taharah and faith/ 'aqidah. One code, Islamic criminal law/ hukm jinayat for life preservation and two codes, moral/akhlaq and marriage/munakahat for the preservation of lineage/dignity. Besides, two codes, knows Allah SWT and Prophet Muhammad SAW, and learns Quran were discovered for intellect preservation as well as property preservation, zakat and financial affairs/mu'amalat. The current study makes a significant contribution to the Maqasid al-Sharia approach to managing the welfare of mualaf. Concisely, it is suggested that developing a module and approach conforming to the needs and education of mualaf would be a practical and beneficial step for da'wah institutions.
