| Summary: | Problem Statement: Current materials such as wood, metal, and plastic used to produce various types of furniture. Wood-based furniture has encouraged the cutting down of more trees. Excessive consumption may result in forest loss, climate change and destroying animals' habitat. Many studies showed that around 50% to 60% of paper waste is the highest percentage of waste in landfills. Observations indicate cardboard and paper can be used as an alternative material to produce simple furnishing models. The main objective of this research is to produce artistic design and innovative chair using a combination of sustainable materials such as paper and cardboard. Methodology: Questionnaire involving 50 respondents to get basic thoughts and opinions on furniture design and paper as an alternative material. Validation evaluation and interview sessions were carried out during the company visits based on the proposed
tangible model to justify the strength of the new proposed material. Validation questionnaires also conducted involving 25 respondents from 8 selected companies . The collection of data from these surveys were analyzed using Factor Analysis and Cluster Analysis (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences-SPSS). The Design Process (series of design stages from an early sketch to the proposed tangible design product) conducted with a purpose to satisfy the consumers' demands. Result: The first questionnaire survey contains three variables showed positive results (data located in the first quadrant in the two-dimensions) a combination of factor analysis and cluster analysi (hi rarchical cluster). Average mean of three variables, 4.1011 where the majority of respondents agreed with the innovative and artistic eco-design furniture and ready to buy environmentally-friendly products. The weakness of papers can be enhanced using waterproof materials to overcome the humidity and water. The yield strength of paper (2.45eo07 N/m2) have a near yield strength with balsa wood (2.00eOO7 N/m2). Both analyses showed the result value is less than the initial yield strength. It indicated that the proposed design is safe and sturdy. Validation evaluation with the second questionnaire survey has a reliability test with a = 0.890. Evaluation results showed an excellent design thus validate the proposed design. Proposed chair model from selected paper waste demonstrated perfection in terms of sturdiness, stability and function and the potential for success through the eco-design approach. Besides, the overall mean validation, 4.26 has achieved the research objectives through a cycle and re-use of waste paper into functional and eco-friendly furniture to save the environment. Conclusion: Papers strive to be as primary materials in producing chairs with ecodesign. The freedom, capability, and flexibility of the paper can be produced with a variet of models whether small-scale toy models to large-scale furniture products throu the creative artistic and eco-design approach.
