Description
Summary:The environment of the interior space is the basis of the design process carried out by the interior designer. Furthermore, student space needs to be well planned, useful and flexible. Therefore, the importance and interest of the study are to show that such issues as interior design and architectural solutions can be crucial in creating an appropriate and friendly place for library students. Moreover, the academic libraries internationally, as well as locally and regionally, have gone through some form of transformation of their library spaces to respond to their current students' needs. Besides, in a recent study where ten academic university libraries surveyed, they all had confirmed that it had to the redesigning of spaces to support student output as part of their main thrusts. Therefore, this phenomenon has triggered the need for this research on the UniSZA library. This study aimed at determining why the students use the library, their satisfaction with the library design, and what is the model the students prefer it in the future library. In achieving the objective of the study, the study used the quantitative method by a questionnaire was designed as the primary tool for collecting data. It included 60 questions divided into three variables: current usage consisted of 19 questions, student's satisfaction consisted of 20 questions, and students' preferences consisted of 21 questions. The respondents' sample covered off 412 an individual's that selected randomly from all UniSZA library students. After the distribution of the questionnaire and data collection, the SPSS software was used to answer the study questions through the use of factor analysis and cluster analysis. The study found that there are students who have different ways to use the library, and the most significant finding was that 82 per cent of survey respondents stated the main reason they choose to study at the library is for quiet study space. Therefore, designing libraries to foster collaboration, it must also maintain the notion that libraries should provide patrons with a welcoming and comfortable, quiet study environment that promotes prolonged use. Also, the study found that most of the students are satisfied with the UniSZA library design in general. In order, to create and to achieve a better design for future university libraries, the various aspects of interior physical environments and interior ambience should be considered such as space planning, selection of furniture, lightings, material, and finishes. Concurrently, the students must feel welcoming to the future design of spaces. The areas should have an adequate level of visual stimulation, but yet be quiet enough to study. At lengthy last, it can be said that the design of the UniSZA library was excellent and could be considered as a benchmark library for other universities.
