Description
Summary:Anemia during pregnancy is a rate of hemoglobin below 11.0 g/dl (WHO, 1992). Anemia in pregnancy is a common problem among pregnant women in this country despite the standard practice in Malaysia where all antenatal mothers were given iron supplement throughout the pregnancy. This study was aimed to assess the prevalence of anemia among pregnant mothers, to build a logistic regression model to make the analysis about the factors involving anemia among the pregnancy woman and to assess the level of contribution of each variable involved in this study using logistic regression method. The research design involved in this study was cross-sectional study. The data used in this study was retrieved from Klinik Kesihatan Tengkawan Hulu Terengganu from 20th January to 20th October 2015. The total of the sample size of pregnant mothers are 182 people. This study was conducted by using descriptive statistic and multiple logistic regression. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 using significance level less than 0.25. Descriptive analysis revealed that prevalence of anemia consists of age, 47.3% (20-30 years old), 33.2% (under 20 and 30 years old above), diastolic blood pressure, 50% « 80 mmHg), 29.6% (80-90 mmHg), systolic blood pressure, 53.5% «120 mmHg), 27.0% (120-139 mmHg) and the period of pregnancy, 11.1% (first trimester), 69.5% (second and third trimester). There are four factors that are significant to the model using multiple logistic regression which are age, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and period of pregnancy. The initial screening based on the risk factor of anemia can help the health authorities to identify cases of anemia and it is hoped that the results from this study will ease this problem among pregnant mothers.
