Description
Summary:The field of jurisprudence is considered one of the most important fields in the knowledge of Islam and most esteemed as well. People's needs towards jurisprudence field is recurrent in nature. Most of the early jurists have contnbuted abundantly to the jurisprudence field. Among the early jurists who were keen in this field, is Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal who was a narrator of prophetic traditions and a well versed jurist. He held many verdicts in the jurisprudent matters that were unlike his contemporaries' verdicts. These singular verdicts were wen recorded in the famous somces of jurisprudent manuscripts. The knowledge concerning singular verdicts is of importance, since it helps accumulate the wealth of jurisprudent verdicts from all the schools of thought and weighing each verdict against another. Throughout the investigation of Imam Ahmad singular verdicts, it was found that the verdicts concerning "Salah" prayers are yet to be compiled and looked upon in a comparisonal and research-based manner. Furthermore, it was found that many unrelated verdicts were counted as Imam Ahmad's verdicts, even more surprising, are the accusations of the inherent weaknesses in the singular verdicts of Imam Ahmad. Therefore, apart of clarifymg these accusations, this research is putting forward the methodology by which Imam Ahamd derived his verdicts, explain the underlying reasons for making such verdicts, and show the impact of these singular verdicts in the schools of thought at large. Research objectives were achieved through the main research tools at hand; reviewing the related issues in the major books of the established schools of thought, comparing of the verdicts, and weighing verdicts against each other according to the rules of the fundamentalists "U suhyiuun". The following results were obtained; the knowledge of singular verdict is the knowledge concerning a concrete verdict of one of the established schools of thought which differed from the other verdicts given by aI1 the other schools of thought. The reason for having a singular verdict is because of the difference in understanding of textual evidence and the methodology of reasoning. The singular verdicts of Imam Ahmad regarding "Salah" are in the minor issues of jurisprudence, where the total count of these verdicts starting from the beginning of "Salah" till the two "Rakaat" of ''Sujud Sahwi" is only twenty :five verdicts. It was found that :five out of all are stronger in argument that its counterparts in the other schools of thought. It was found that what sometimes might be regarded as singular verdict by the very same school of thought of Imam Ahmad turned out to be actually not so, because it was found that other verdicts of other schools of thought have agreed upon the same issue. In other instances, what was thought to be Imam Ahmad's singular verdict turned to be his follower's and not his. A summary was produced showing the important findings in this research work.
