520 |a The natural reproductive and growth cycle in animal husbandry management could not meet the current increasing demand for goat products in Malaysia. One of the main constraints hindering the goat production is lack of good quality breeding stock. The study aim was to determine suitable breeding technique for Jamnapari goat for improvement in their reproduction through the use of estrus synchronisation (ES) method using Control Internal Drug Released (CIDR) and Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotrophin (pMSG) in an Artificial insemination (AI) programme and the early pregnancy diagnosis using trans-rectal real time ultrasonography technique in the local Jamnapari goat breed. Estrus was synchronised with CIDR followed by either 10 or 15 IU/kg of PMSG at CIDR removal, the does that responded were recorded and inseminated with Saanen frozen semen. An overall of 42 (84%) does responded to estrus and 12 (66.7%) does conceived with no statistical difference (P>0.05) between the treatments, respectively. Early pregnancy diagnosis and fetal measurements were carried out weekly (Day 28-100 of gestation) using trans-rectal probe of B-mode real-time ultrasonography. The result indicated that the use of trans-rectal ultrasonography is likely convenient for early pregnancy diagnosis and estimation of gestational age. In conclusion, the PMSG dosage used has a similar effect on ES and conception rate, thus lower level could be considered appropriate to use for economic purposes. The real-time ultrasonography can be considered a reliable means of early pregnancy detection, whilst the crown-rump length (CRL), and biparietal diameter (BPD) ultrasound measurements were proven to be an efficient technique for predicting gestational age in Jamnapari goats.
