Genome diversity and adaptation of African Taurine and Zebu cattle
Published 2019“…Thus, the primary goal of the research presented herein is to unravel at genome-wide level the genome diversity and particularly the genetic basis of economically important phenotypes including morphology (growth traits), productivity (milk production traits) and local environmental adaptation traits such as disease resistance, heat tolerance and tick resistance traits of indigenous African taurine and zebu cattle through signatures of selection analyses. …”

Expansion of the Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) knowledge base and resources
Published 2019“…It also plays a key role in the popular Exomiser tool, which identifies potential disease-causing variants from whole-exome or whole-genome sequencing data. Since the HPO was first introduced in 2008, its users have become both more numerous and more diverse. …”

Comparison Of Genotypes And Virulence Factors Among Carrier And Pathogenic Strains Of Candida Albicans
Published 2021“…Candida albicans is a prominent global fungal pathogen capable of causing fatal systemic infections in humans. Presently in Malaysia, there is little data on genetic diversity of this organism and behavioural characteristics of local organisms. …”

Endogenous retroviruses in primates
Published 2015“…Accurate annotation and characterisation of ERV regions is an important step in interpreting the huge amount of genetic information available for increasing numbers of organisms. This project represents an extensive study into the diversity of ERVs in the genomes of primates and related ERVs in rodents, lagomorphs and tree shrews. …”

Characterisation of the central region of the sheep major histocompatibility complex
Published 2008“…Analysis of pairwise linkage disequilibrium between SNP loci in the cohort of 71 unrelated sheep showed a centre-most region displaying relatively high levels of linkage disequilibrium which was bounded by two regions displaying more variable linkage disequilibrium. It is hypothesised that this mid region of the central region of the sheep MHC may be a block like structure characterized by low recombination similar to those that have been widely described in the human and mouse genomes. The discoveries reported in this thesis provide a more accurate and detailed description of the central region of the sheep MHC together with a panel of SNPs, which reflect the diversity of this important genomic region which is known to be associated with immune responsiveness. …”

PCR amplification and cloning of six target genes from Burkholderia pseudomallei
Published 2016“…At the time of writing, three target genes were successfully cloned and validated by sequencing. In future projects, the entry clones can then be easily transferred into various expression vectors to be expressed and purified for diverse functional protein studies.…”

Analysis of SOX1 regulation in stem cell and cancerous cell lines
Published 2017“…The SOX family of transcription factors are well-known regulators of diverse cellular events during development. SOX1, which belongs to the SOXB1 sub-family, is a key regulator of neural stem cell fate and a known specific marker of the neuroectoderm lineage. …”
