Kinematics of the intermediate-mass black hole candidate HLX-1
Published 2013“…We studied the optical spectrum of HLX-1 during its latest outburst, using the FORS2 spectrograph on the Very Large Telescope. We detect an Hα emission line centered at λ = 6718.9 ± 0.9 Å and find that its projected radial velocity with respect to the nucleus of ESO 243–49 is 424 ± 27 km s–1, while the maximum rotational velocity of the stars in that galaxy is 209 km s–1. …”

Constraining the temperature–density relation of the intergalactic medium with the Lyman-alpha and beta forests
Published 2016“…We apply this technique to a sample of 27 high-resolution quasar spectra from the Very Large Telescope. While promising statistical errors on γ appear to be achievable with these spectra, to reach its full potential, the dependence of the curvature ratio on the thermal state of the gas in the foreground Lyman α forest will require further, detailed forward modelling.…”

Infrared interferometry to spatially and spectrally resolve jets in X-ray binaries
Published 2020“…We demonstrate that the GRAVITY instrument on the Very Large Telescope Interferometer should be able to detect a centroid shift in a number of sources, opening a new avenue of exploration for the myriad of transients expected to be discovered in the coming decade of radio all-sky surveys. …”

Late-time Observations of GRB 080319B: Jet Break, Host Galaxy, and Accompanying Supernova
Published 2010“…We present our late-time optical (HubbleSpace Telescope, Gemini, and Very Large Telescope) and X-ray (Chandra) observations, which confirm that anachromatic break occurred in the power-law afterglow light curve at~ 11 days post-burst. …”

A newly discovered double-double candidate microquasar in NGC 300
Published 2019“…Cooler shock-heated gas is likely the origin also of the optical bubble and lobes near the X-ray structure, detected in images from the Hubble Space Telescope and the Very Large Telescope. In the radio bands, we observed the region with the Australia Telescope Compact Array, and discovered an elongated radio nebula (about 170 × 55 pc in size) with its major axis aligned with the chain of Chandra sources. …”
