description The concept of a smart city is still debatable and receives attention from every country around the globe in providing a better quality of life to its community. In Malaysia, new ideas for the development of a smart city have always evolved to enhance the quality, performance, and interactivity of services. Putrajaya has been suggested to be the first smart city in Malaysia, while the smart city framework for Putrajaya has been highlighted by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT). The framework of a smart city for Putrajaya proposed by the KPKT comprises a smart economy, smart living, smart environment, smart people, smart government, smart mobility, and smart digital infrastructure. Sri Gading has been chosen as a case study for a potential smart urban district and the steps involved in this study are the literature review, development of the smart urban district model, survey instrument, and model validation. Based on the survey instrument, infrastructure, IoTs, environment, and culture are the components of the smart urban district model in this study. The smart urban district model has been verified since the average mean of each element is more than 4 out of 5. Besides, the model has also been validated by experts in the field and this smart urban district model can further be used as a guideline for any urban district to transform into a smart urban district. Sri Gading is recommended to be transformed into a smart urban district based on this guideline.
