Description
Summary:This study seeks to investigate the impact of a task-based language activity on the development of L2 students’ Cognitive Presence in a Community of Inquiry. Sixteen participants from two universities interacted through Skype chat to complete a task given. Two were + task structure (+TS) and two were – task structure (- TS) groups. Findings indicate that the interactions of the +TS groups were more engaged and of higher quality than the -TS groups. The +TS groups also achieved the highest level of CP (Resolution). In summary, the task provided direction and facilitation to the COI and facilitated in developing cognitive presence, especially for the +TS groups, even though there was no teacher present.
