Summary:The aim of the research was to find out to what extent do code mixing, code switching and first language interference affect university students’ English proficiency. For this study, 384 survey questionnaires were collected for the data analysis of the research. From the results obtained by running the gathered data in SPSS Statistics 26, it was found that code mixing, code switching and first language interference do affect university students’ English proficiency but to different extents. It was found that code mixing and code switching positively affects university students’ English proficiency while first language interference has a negative consequence to university students’ English proficiency. The findings also concluded that code switching greatly affects university students’ English proficiency while code mixing and first language interference minimally affects university students’ English proficiency.
