description In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), the Media Access Control (MAC) layer is responsible for coordinating Sensor Nodes (SNs) as their access to the media. Real time data flow needs precise scheduling for sensor nodes to access the medium in order to send the data on time. Time slotted transmission scheduling is needed to access the media without collision. To achieve this, sensor nodes need to be synchronized and know about each other’s notion of time. However, time synchronization requires message exchanges, which incur high overhead. The proposed MAC protocol, which consists of algorithms that minimizes collision and detects hidden terminals, eliminates the message overheads of global time synchronization
