Forty-three strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated and identified from fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and fermented products. Neutralised cell-free supernatant (CFS) of Lactobacillus plantarum USM8613 (L. plantarum USM8613) exerted the strongest inhibitory effect (P<0.05) against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) compared to all LAB strains studied.
