The discharge of azo dye-containing textile industrial wastewaters into water bodies leads to aesthetic problems and obstructs light penetration and oxygen transfer into waters. Therefore,treatment of industrial effluents containing azo dyes and their degradation products is essential prior to their final discharge to the environment. Azo dyes can be mineralised under anaerobic followed by aerobic conditions.
