Karbon aktif dari berbagai bahan sampingan pertanian seperti tempurung kelapa, tempurung kelapa sawit dan kayu bakau telah disediakan secara persulingan memusnah pada keadaan vakum. Pencirian sifat kimia dan fiziknya telah dilakukan. Kegunaannya terutama di dalam bidang kimia juga telah dikaji.
