Prevalence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus In Wild Birds, Bats and Rodents In Nanga Merit, Kapit
Vibrio parahaemolyticus is an etiologic agent of bloody diarrhea in humans. V. parahaemolyticus carries the toxigenic or virulence tdh and trh genes and the toxR regulatory gene. This study is carried out to detect and examine the prevalence of V. parahaemolyticus in 100 random samples of wild birds...

| description | Vibrio parahaemolyticus is an etiologic agent of bloody diarrhea in humans. V. parahaemolyticus carries the toxigenic or virulence tdh and trh genes and the toxR regulatory gene. This study is carried out to detect and examine the prevalence of V. parahaemolyticus in 100 random samples of wild birds, bats and rodents in Nanga Merit, Kapit. In this study, Luria Broth (LB) added with 3% NaCl was used as an enrichment media. Selective isolation and detection of V. parahaemolyticus was done on both Thiosulphate Citrate Bile Salt Sucrose (TCBS) agar and CHROMagar Vibrio (CV). A series of biochemical tests were performed for identification of the desired species from the isolates. Next, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assay was carried out to further confirm and determine the presence of V. parahaemolyticus in the isolates. Seventeen samples showed positive presumptive green colonies on TCBS whereas 8 samples showed positive results after isolation on CHROMagar Vibrio. However, the series of biochemical tests carried out showed no pure positive isolates of V. parahaemolyticus and PCR done further confirmed that there is no occurrence of this species in the samples isolated. |
