description Curcuma caesia Roxb. is a species belong to genus Curcuma, under family Zingiberaceae. It is called ‘Kunyit Hitam’ (Malay), Kala haldi (Bengal), Manupasupu (Telugu) and Lampuyangdorac (Visayan). It is a non – native plant in Malaysia. The present study was to determine the effect of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mg/L of 2,4- Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) alone, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mg/L of 2,4- Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in combination with 0.5 mg/L of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) and 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10 mg/L of picloram alone on callus induction and development. Leaves, roots and stems of C.caesia were used as explants and were cultured on half strength solid MS medium. The highest mean number of callus formed was 3.44 ± 0.98 in 2.5 mg/L of picloram. While, 1.33 ± 0.46 in 2.0 and 4.0 mg/L of 2,4 – D. Then, in the effect of 2,4 D in combination with BAP, the highest mean number of callus formed was 1.99 ± 0.67 in 1.0 mg/L 2,4 D with 0.5 mg/L BAP and 3.0 mg/L 2,4 – D with 0.5 mg/L BAP.
