The .objective .of this study is t.o determine h.ow these s.ocial, political, technical, ec.on.omic and
instituti.onal fact.ors play their roles t.owards contributing t.o achieving an integrated s.olid waste
management system particularly in Kampung Tabuan Melayu, Kuching, Sarawak. In this study,
a t.otal number .of 100 h.ouseh.olds wh.o are currently residing within the vicinity .of Kampung
Tabuan Melayu, Kuching, Sarawak had been ch.osen rand.omly as resp.ondents and interviewed
face-t.o-face in May 2012 using a structured questi.onnaire t.o find .out their perceptions .on s.olid
waste management services based .on the five aspects. The resp.ondents are primarily residents
wh.om are faced with accessibility f.or establishment.of h.ouse t.o h.ouse s.olid waste c.ollecti.on
services.
The findings .of this study sh.ow that p.olitical, technical and s.ocial fact.ors with regards t.o s.olid
waste management system in Kampung Tabuan Melayu have a significant influence. The results
.of the analysis als.o reveal that political fact.or which can bring ab.out infrastructural changes
appears t.o play the m.ost crucial r.ole in c.ontributing t.owards an effective and successful s.olid
waste management system.
Thus, t.o effectively devise a successful s.ofid waste management system in Kampung Tabuan
Melayu, p.olicy .or the related auth.orities need t.o take int.o c.onsiderati.on infrastructural impeding
fact.or t.o supp.ort an efficient and effective s.olid waste c.ollecti.on system t.o the c.ommunity. |
