Description
Summary:95% of Forescom Plywood workers are foreign and there are only 22 local general workers. Thus, the researcher believes that the study could help throw lights on the factors causing the shortage of domestic workers from both perspectives, employers and employees. It explores the causes of labor shortage from the employers' point of view. Methods used by management to attract and keeping workers at Forescom are also examined. From the perspective of employees, satisfaction of workers with wages, fringe benefits and facilities offered are studied. It also seeks to determine other additional incentives that may induce workers to stay on in Forescom. Stastistic descriptive (frequency distribution and percentage distribution) is used to present and analyse the findings. The study has found various factors that may have led to shortage of domestic workers, ie., low wages, poor facilities, changing of management, inadequate incentives and other fringe benefits. Other factors that may have caused the problem of shortage of local general workers, accordings to the employers are: low starting salary, workers' attitude, poor perception of general workers by society to large, cannot deal with hard work, lack of motivation, keen competition from electronic factory for workers, labor mobility and workers who are relatively higher educated in contemporary society.
