| description | Anticancer research has advanced significantly in recent decades, with several new anticancer medicines currently been authorized. The advancement of cancer treatment can lead to the discovery of new therapies which are capable to maintain momentum. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anticancer properties of Christia obcordata (Stripped Butterfly Wing) against breast cancer. It began with the collection and preparation of a Christia obcordata sample, which was then subjected to maceration extraction in triplicate to achieve total extraction of the extracts. Next, solvent-solvent extraction was performed to get methanol and hexane extracts of Christia obcordata, which were subsequently analysed using GC-MS to identify bioactive components. As a vital procedure, the breast cancer cell line (MCF-7) was cultivated in an incubator until it reached 80 to 90 percent confluency. Furthermore, cell proliferation assays and morphological analyses were performed and monitored over a three-day incubation period. For optimization assay, various concentrations of both extracts have been evaluated to determine the best concentration able to inhibit cancer growth. Extracts of methanol and hexane at 200 μg/mL yielded positive results. In conclusion, methanolic extracts of Christia obcordata at a concentration of 200 μg/mL yielded positive findings across three analyses. |
