An edge dislocation in a semi-infinite elastic wedge

The state of stress is deduced for an edge dislocation present in a semi-infinite wedge. Particular attention is paid to the case when both the dislocation and the observation point lie on a projection line from one of the free surfaces, permitting the solution to be used as a strain nucleus when so...

description The state of stress is deduced for an edge dislocation present in a semi-infinite wedge. Particular attention is paid to the case when both the dislocation and the observation point lie on a projection line from one of the free surfaces, permitting the solution to be used as a strain nucleus when solving for local slip and separation conditions at the edge of a complete frictional contact. The solution has obvious further application to edge cracks between bonded components.
