description Energy audit and management of a plant is the systematic approach to maintain the performance of a plant at high efficiency. The tedious task of energy audit of a cogeneration plant can be undertaken by the analytical method of the respective equipment used in a plant. This paper discusses the analytical method for energy audit of an existing cogeneration plant in Universiti Teknologi PETRO AS (UTP). The analytical models were developed for the gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator. This study is done for investigating the operating parameters of a cogeneration plant, which affect the performance of the plant due to energy misusage and loses. Identifying the operating parameters which results to energy loses and misusage can be the technique for management of a cogeneration plant, the independent parameters can be the main control parameters for optimum performance of the plant. The models were implemented using matlab and the results were validated to that of the actual operating conditions. The results shows that a cogeneration plant can be manage when energy analysis is performed by the analytical model developed. The management of the plant can be as a result of controlling some operating parameters that shows effective measures on energy consumption and loses of the components in the cogeneration plant. Its shown also that reduction of energy loses and balance increase the performance of the cogeneration plant.
