description Inclusive education is the way forward for special education needs students in the 21st century and children with autism spectrum disorder are among the most difficult of special education students to handle. In order for inclusive education to be successful for this group of students, parent-teacher collaboration and cooperation is essential. It is therefore most important for teachers and parents to understand each other. The objective of this study is to explore parents’ experiences in obtaining a diagnosis, caregiving and educating their ASD children as well as their future aspirations for them. This is to enhance mainstream as well as special needs educators’ understanding of parents who often face a psychological loss termed ambiguous loss which can result in family crisis when their child is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The intended study is a qualitative study and will be done through face to face interviews; asking parents caring for their ASD children open questions on the four areas in order to obtain rich and thick data. The data obtained will be transcribed and analysed via phenomenological analysis in order to provide the unique perspectives of Malaysian parents in these four areas. [Abstract by author]
