description The importance of the board of directors and corporate risk-taking for company growth is gradually being realized as a result of the ongoing advancement of corporate governance. The significance of this research would be to investigate whether the board of directors of Chinese enterprises has played its role effectively and what impact it will have on enterprise risk-taking. This advances the empirical study in this area and adds to the body of literature on Chinese businesses. This paper seeks to analyze the consequence of four different features of the board of directors in Chinese corporates on the taking of business risks. This paper holds that enterprise risk-taking decreases with the increase in board size. Enterprise risk-taking and gender diversity on boards are negatively correlated. In addition, board independence influences business risk-taking favorably. Finally, duality and corporate risk-taking do not significantly correlate. There may be some lagged effect between them. The limitation of this paper is that this paper does not delve into the causes of this lagged effect. Future papers could be further explored in this direction.
