description Electric vehicle development is becoming a hot topic considering the environmental effects on the transportation sector and the global energy crisis. It must be regarded whether electric cars are more environmentally friendly in comparison and in what ways they are more ecologically friendly than gasoline vehicles. As a result, this has now caught the attention of scholars as to its actual environmental effects. At the same time, most evaluations focus on the raw material extraction, production, use, and end-of-life phase. However, do not clarify the environmental effects of the transportation process between each process. Taking this as an opportunity, this dissertation is committed to making a comparative analysis of emissions of electric and petrol vehicles and mapping the end-to-end supply chain of electric vehicle batteries and vehicles. The Tesla Model 3 and Toyota Corolla are representative of electric cars and petrol vehicles in their respective fields, using the lifecycle assessment method to make a comprehensive assessment of the greenhouse gas emissions of electric cars and petrol vehicles in the whole life span in two countries, China, and the UK. From the analysis, the dissertation maintains that electric vehicles have enormous benefits for the environment compared with petrol vehicles in the same country and the national grid mix have a significant influence on the electric vehicle’s environmentally friendly effects. Besides, the vehicle's primary source of greenhouse gas is during the driving process for electric and petrol cars. The main contribution of this dissertation is two real-life vehicle models being selected based on the model’s configuration and the location of each process operation to provide relatively more reference value results and suggestions to the concerns and policymakers. At the same time, the limitations of the assessment are also proposed at the end of the dissertation. The tips about future research are put forward at the end as well.
