However, there is a great unbalance between the number of Latin Americans in the country and the amount of them in the high-skilled labour market. This situation is not different for women, as only 13.8% of them had high-skilled jobs in 2006 (Oso Casas and Martínez, 2008). Women have been particularly overlooked by the literature, with unknown studies covering their presence in the Spanish high-skilled market and in executive positions. This study aims to directly shed a light on Latin American women in the high-skilled labour market and the lack of them in high-level positions. By developing knowledge on two aspects: recognise if there are barriers limiting them from achieving senior-level positions, which this study assesses as objective career success. And if those exist, identify which barriers are present and their sources. Moreover, this study aims to use that knowledge to provide informed recommendations to tackle the lack of Latinas in senior-level positions in Spain. The study found that indeed, they experience barriers that add extra difficulty in their career development. More particularly, those barriers mainly derive from socio-demographic factors with ethnicity and mainly class as the protagonists. Additionally, pursuing education emerged as the solution for the lack of Latin American women in senior-level positions and high-skilled jobs.
