description The aim of this research project is to identify which factors deter SMEs from adopting Fintech in Mauritius. The benefits that Fintech bring to SMEs are also highlighted. This research is a qualitative study and semi-structured interviews were conducted with executives of 7 organizations that form part of the Fintech industry in Mauritius. The research findings demonstrate that Fintech helps SMEs to target a bigger market, decrease cost, execute things faster and give easier access to funding. However, the study reveals that entrepreneurs in Mauritius do not have enough knowledge about Fintech and its benefits. They also have little trust in technological enterprises, and they fear to invest in innovative products. Moreover, there are not enough financial aids from the government to encourage enterprises to adopt new technologies in their operations. The regulatory framework also needs to be more accommodating for Fintech enterprises to operate optimally. In addition, Fintech enterprises may not necessarily provide appropriate and affordable solutions that fit the business nature of the SMEs. This study will facilitate future researchers who want to conduct an empirical analysis and get a broader view about Fintech and SMEs in Mauritius.
