description This study aims to: (1) To explore and understand the value chain performance of Perfect Brake Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (PBM), and to what extent the quality management system (ISO 9001:2008) could add value to PBM’s value chain linkages (2) To provide an awareness of PBM current capabilities (internal strengths and weakness) and the most importance is to identify the root cause of problems (problem statement) through survey activities instead of individual non- proven personal judgments. The main framework of this study is the value chain model adopted from Michel E. Porter (1985) study. While the research study of this report is focused on the company’s value chain performance other related frameworks like Michael Porter’s – Generic Competitive Strategies and Competitive Analysis are used to aid in understanding further PBM’s value chain capability and competency level. There are some contradictive views between the general formal research method and informal in- depth research method. The general data findings indicate that the value chain performance of PBM is at above moderate level as majority of the activities are well guided by the ISO 9001 requirements However, the informal research methods such as interviews, observation, discussion and brainstorming sessions are essential for this study. Those data findings indicate that PBM’s current practices are embedded with human errors, intentional approaches, dependency, obstacle for employees to grow, insufficient resources and lack of proper guidance.
