| Summary: | Deficit in social skills functioning is a core feature of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The aim of this study was to examine the published research during 2012-2016 on social skills interventions for students with ASD that are conducted in mainstream schools through adopting a systematic approach. Ten studies were finally reviewed and this review addressed several issues, including generalization of the interventions, outcome measurements, a need for follow-up data and the ethical issues of intervention studies. In addition, characteristics of the successfully implemented interventions were located and summarized in this paper. Recommendations for future practice as well as the future direction of studies are offered.
