| description | After twenty years’ foreign exploration, Chinese telecommunication equipment manufacturing industry has achieved remarkable performance with a high level of internationalization. In fact, the achievement of MNEs in international business is determined largely by its internationalization strategy. And given the disadvantage of lacking ownership advantage inherently, emerging Chinese MNEs continuously conduct OFDI by acquisitions or alliances in developed markets. Therefore, the dissertation takes Huawei as a case to explore its strategy choice between acquisitions and strategic alliances in developed nations and tries to find out the drives behind Huawei’s choice.
Through analysis of data collected from interviews and other reliable sources, the researcher identifies that Huawei prefers to choose strategic alliances when operating in developed markets. And based on the transaction cost theory, the dissertation points out eight factors contributing Huawei’s preference about strategic alliances; then it further explains how these factors could influence the transaction cost of cross-broader acquisitions and strategic alliances respectively and how a lower transaction cost in strategic alliances is achieved. The dissertation concludes that Huawei is more likely to achieve strategic targets by establishing collaboration with other firms. |
