Summary:ABSTRACT This dissertation aims to identify what strategies businesses employ in response to institutional pressures in corporate social responsibility (CSR) issues. Relevant literatures on CSR, stakeholder and strategy are reviewed to find the answer. Then, a business case of Primark is studied to answer the specific question of how the retailer strategically responding to institutional pressures in CSR. After analyzing the collected information based on two selected frameworks, I find out that Primark uses a mixture of strategies to handle four CSR issues, which are supply chain, Primark effect, climate change and padded bikini for young girls. In addition, I further have three discussions and suggest for further research.
