description During my development and clinical practice particularly this year, I have been fortunate enough to have been able to expand my working knowledge of counselling children and young people. In all of my writings to press, I have endeavoured to write in such a way that I believe has allowed me to share my experiences, as me and of the children that I have honoured in my work, as them. Not as someone that I profess to be, but as someone who has written from the heart in describing her increasing passion in her work and of her experiences with troubled young people. It was my intention in doing so to produce pieces of work that were readable for others, but that were also valuable for me in expanding my own knowledge and awareness, in the vast and often turbulent field of working with children. Emerging from this process in this particular piece of work was that I was able to journey my own integrative approach to therapy with children and how that directly affected one young lady’s process too. I have documented a portrayal of my own practice in this case study dissertation of Ellie and subsequent outcomes, whilst providing the grounding theoretical focus for understanding the effects of parental separation on children.
