description In today’s world where supply chains are intensively competing with each other, it is crucial for management to know supply chain performance of competitors in order to assess relative performance of the company. Publicly available data is a cheap and accessible source that can be utilised as a source of benchmarking data to compare supply chain performance with competing firms. However, since the purpose of financial statements and other publicly available data is not to facilitate supply chain performance measurement, the reliability of assessment through this kind of method remains questionable. This study seeks to ascertain the usefulness of publicly available data as a means to assess supply chain performance for competing firms. The first part proposes a set of metrics that can most comprehensively capture supply chain performance using widely obtainable data. The second part is an application to actual company data to make conclusions and puts forth recommendations that enhance the ability of financial statements to communicate supply chain performance.
