description For a better understanding of location specific factors that influence the levels of M&A inflows to host countries, the regulatory environment in these countries is examined for a period of three years with an emphasis on four aspects; the costs of starting a business, the regulations governing the enforcement of contracts, employment regulations and the costs of closing a business. The gravity model of trade is used with the fixed effects components that held the distance factors constant and focused on the within group effects of the model. However, the results indicate that an increase in the Costs of Starting a Business reduces the levels of Cross Border M&As and with a higher level of Contract Enforcement, Cross Border M&As too increase. However, there is need for a bigger scope of research capturing a longer period of time and more Doing Business factors to establish more issues that influence the regulatory aspects of host countries alongside M&A inflows.
