Summary:The development of more efficient logistic systems is crucial in this increasingly globalized world to obtain competitive advantage. In addition, the recovery of used products and materials has had more attention because among other factors, the increasing collective interest of protecting the environment and the reduction of expenditures are an important issue worldwide. In order to face these challenges, research areas such as Reverse Logistics have being studied and developed. This dissertation presents a framework focused on the relationship between the reverse logistics process and the new product development process in the pharmaceutical industry. A literature review; which is separated by two main topics, the chapter of reverse logistic system at pharmaceutical industry, and the chapter of new product development; is complemented by a single organization case study which seeks to explore in practice the process of managing product returns at J&J Mexico and the relationship with the process of new product development. Pharmaceutical companies, researchers, students and other industries can be interested in this project; however, additional information should be investigated by these entities in order to adjust or complement the information presented in this dissertation due to it is focused on the pharmaceutical industry.
