Summary:In this study, 350 mergers and acquisitions has been undertaken to examine, what form of payment method was used for financing those deals and their post acquisition returns of acquirers in terms of share capital. An attempt has been made to investigate how important is the correct financing/ payment technique for shareholder value creation and what determines financing decision in a merger and acquisition process. After conducting a literature review and analyzing the theoretical background to merger payment and value creation activity, the research process starts. Shareholder value creation has been studied by the event study approach under CAPM model. There would be comparative study between different methods in financing/ payment techniques. M & As of the last 15 years, happening in different industries has been studied. The acquirers and the acquired companies taken in the sample for research were based all over the world. The study also tries to find out the higher popularity among the different payment methods. The results of this study indicate that the payment method doesn’t have much role to play in the share holder value creation.
