In this dissertation, the work that has been done to advance the key processes of the Integrated Logistics Centre in Derby to a first and fundamental level within the process control improvement is described.
This project will form the basis for the future improvements in the control over the processes in the Integrated Logistics Centre.
Being based on Six Sigma, the project has been carried out in DMAIC project framework with its five phases Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control.
The work that has been carried out was characterized primarily by the application of tools like Failure Mode and Effect Analysis, Statistical Process Control, Measurement System Analysis and different root cause analysis tools as well as by the engagement with the employees who work within the processes. The project could be finished successfully by passing the audit for the first level of the Process Control element.
Additionally, this report discusses the lessons learnt from the project that will be beneficial for the future work in process control improvements: First, experience showed that the commitment and support of the employees working in the processes is the most important issue and needs to be improved. Second, it became obvious that the amount of work necessary for the process control improvement work has been underestimated. The assigned capacity needs to be increased in order to meet the given future targets in time. |
