It studies the impact of microfinance institutes on its clients and the community as a whole and also draws out the challenges faced by such institutes in achieving their mission. The objective of this research is to analyse the impact of microfinance institutes in India, on their clients and suggesting ways on how such institutes can circumvent or meet their challenges to improve their impact on their clients and the community. The literature review describes the different microfinance institutes in India, the products and services offered by them, and the negative and positive impact of such institutes in India. It also points out the challenges faced by microfinance institutes, the importance of sustainability for such institutes and the key drivers of future growth of this industry. For this research a qualitative research methodology was adopted. The researcher conducted interviews with microfinance clients to examine the lending structure of microfinance institutes among women clients in India to meet the aims and objectives of this study. The results from the interviews have been summarised, analysed and then discussed in detail. Lastly, the concluding thoughts of this study draws upon the limitations and drawbacks and makes recommendations on how microfinance institutes can have a deeper impact on their clients in India.
