description Abstract Purpose - The present study is to recognise and analyse the factors/variables that affect the performance of a football player. Along with this the aim is to suggest ways in which the football manager can enhance the performance of players under their supervision. Methodology/Approach - Regression analysis is applied to several factors relating to the performance of a football player. The datasets used in analysis consists of 37 different players belonging to various clubs in the English Premier League. Reversal theory is used to understand the motivation and performance of a player. Findings - Results reveal that every factor/variables affects the performance of a player differently both in direction and magnitude. Originality/Value - The novel element of this study is the use of press releases/press reports as one of the independent factors/variables that can affect the performance of a football player.
