description Outsourcing is passing over the responsibility and accountability for performing certain business functions or activities to an outside specialized vendor that are required by a company to carry out its operation. Due to advantages of outsourcing there has been constant increase in the outsourcing activity in the European retail industry, in particular to India and China. It is becoming an important and key tool for the European retailers leaving them to concentrate more on retailing rather than other business areas. Cost reduction is always the main focus of every retailers behind outsourcing and it has been seen that number of companies have successfully implemented outsourcing and have gained their desired results. India and China both possess some qualities like man-power, cheap labor, proficiency in English, as well as highly developed skills which make them the most preferable outsourcing destinations in the world. The outcome from the findings bring forward that in today's competitive business atmosphere reduction in the cost is important for the firms to remain competitive. A company outsources the non-core functions of its business and the core functions are generally kept and nurtured in house to sustain and be competitive in the market. Outsourcing has gained attraction from more and more firms than in the past and it is believed that in future the outsourcing industry will grow more with offshore outsourcing being the most common of all.
