description In the last decade, India's economy has grown tremendously. Its Rupee is gaining value and is giving head on competition to other developed currencies. There are many NRI's residing in USA who wants to invest in India and find it difficult to find suitable advisors. For example, Raj and Shri, are NRI's (Non-Resident Indian) residing in USA from the past 10 years wish to return to India (after they accumulate decent savings and investments). However with Indian economy growing at around 8% GDP in the last decade compared to 3.5% in USA, they feel left behind and wish to invest some of their assets in Indian markets to hedge and take part in the benefits of fast growing economy. 'Yes Bank' wishes to target these kinds of NRI's and provide investment services. US Economy is the most influential economy in the world. People in India want to invest in developed economies like USA, UK as they are more robust financial markets. Investments in mutual funds in these countries will provide stability and diversification to the Indian's portfolio. Strengthening of rupee is giving confidence for many of these Indian individuals and companies to look at global markets. This project is an attempt by YES Bank to guide the NRI investors on available avenues to invest in India and USA equity mutual funds. We wrote extensive Excel models to analyze the performance of mutual funds industry by evaluating it, by keeping in mind various parameters, in comparison with global standards. This project briefly discusses on measurement of 'risk and return' analysis and 'performance measurement' of various mutual funds through performance parameters like Beta, Standard deviation, Sharpe measure, Treynor measure, Jensen measure and Alpha. The first part of the report discusses growth of the mutual fund industry in India (and USA) and will also briefly review terminologies involved. The second part, analyses the avenues that NRI's can invest in the India equity mutual funds and vice versa. The third part briefly discusses the performance measures that are used globally. This report attempts to help YES Bank, in attracting potential customers, through guiding investors to understand mutual fund industry and the investment opportunities that are available in the international markets; and hence achieve its growth in the fast growing investment trends among Indians residing locally & globally.
