| Summary: | The aim of this management report is to make recommendations on the way in which organisations could report more extensively on diversity within Business in the Community's Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index.
It analyses the current Index and considers the literature on diversity as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) issue, discovering that there has been little written specifically discussing this relationship. Qualitative research with Business in the Community member organisations found that organisations view diversity as a CSR issue in a limited sense. This led to the conclusions that organisations are not doing enough to warrant Business in the Community changing the current scope of its Index. This report recommends that Business in the Community delays altering the Index, focuses on educating its members, communicates diversity in a different way, and promotes best practice in applying diversity to other areas of CSR. It also suggests that a separate diversity index might be a more appropriate forum for benchmarking diversity policies and activities more widely.
