Third-party logistics (TPL) industry brings a lot of benefits to global organizations. Likewise, it also provides a vast amount of opportunities to China as a powerful weapon to overcome the challenges of global competition. However, Chinese TPL is still at the starting stage of its development The existing literature describes and discusses Chinese TPL in both macro and micro way. From macro point of view, Chinese government is making an effort to develop modern logistics patterns by improving logistics infrastructure and regulating logistics market. From micro point of view, Chinese different enterprises including SMEs, large-scale organizations and special TPL providers are finding their own ways to achieve efficient logistics operations. Therefore, Zhejiang Chenlong, Qingdao Haier and Anji-TNT are taken as examples respectively to support the empirical research. The aim of this research is to analyze the developmental situation of Chinese TPL, study TPL market demand in different business areas and find out the challenges and risks it might encounter. Thus, this research will contribute to evaluate the development of TPL in Chinese logistics market, to help Chinese enterprises realizing TPL potential importance and strategic meaning and to remind the difficulties in achieving sustainable TPL development.
